Bosch: The potential of traditional internal combustion engines is still huge

The financial crisis has given hopeful new technologies to continue to show itself to the world. The desire for zero-emission vehicles and electric vehicles seems to be within reach. Bosch, the world's largest auto parts supplier, believes that new energy vehicles will not necessarily become mainstream in the next 20 years, and there is still much room for improvement in traditional internal combustion engines.

Recently, at the media forum hosted by Bosch (China) Investment Co., Ltd., Chen Yudong, executive vice president of Bosch, expressed the above view and proposed: "Compared with electric vehicles, direct injection technology of traditional diesel engines and gasoline engines is still very large. There is room for improvement. Bosch will conduct research and development in accordance with the needs of automotive manufacturers.” Among Bosch's more than 20,000 R&D personnel worldwide, there are more than 400 personnel specializing in new energy R&D; the rest are those engaged in the research and development of traditional internal combustion engines.

The strategy adopted by Bosch in the research and development of automotive technology is “walking on two legs”. It not only focuses on the research and development of new energy, but also focuses on the research and development of traditional energy-saving internal combustion engines. It invests about 3 billion euros each year to ensure that the development work is carried out in an orderly manner. Chen Yudong said: “The increasing scarcity of petroleum has prompted us to work hard to improve vehicle fuel efficiency and tap into the potential of internal combustion engines, including new combustion processes and optimization of high-precision injection technology, turbocharging, engine miniaturization, and the development of exhaust gas recirculation. At the same time, we are also actively promoting the use of idle start and stop systems and users' compliance with intelligent management systems. According to reports, at the Beijing Auto Show in 2011, three or four models with idle start and stop systems will be unveiled as soon as possible. Reduce fuel consumption.
