The “Technology for Coal to Ethylene Glycolâ€, a key project of the National Science and Technology Support Program led by the Fujian Institute of Materials Science and Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was accepted by experts from the Ministry of Science and Technology in Beijing last week. The acceptance panel believes that the project team has completed the demonstration from the 10,000-ton pilot to the 200,000-ton industrial demonstration in the past two years. The progress has been remarkable and the results have been remarkable. It has many invention patents and independent intellectual property rights.
The project has developed a large-scale preparation technology for series catalysts for coal-to-ethylene glycol, formed a 300-ton/year catalyst production capacity, provided guarantee for the 200,000-ton coal-based glycol industry demonstration, and successfully developed a new generation of coal. Highly-dispersed, low-loading, high-efficiency Pd-based dehydrogenation catalysts and oxo-synthesis catalysts and novel chromium-free ester hydrogenation catalysts for ethylene glycol; Development of processes for dehydrogenation purification, oxo synthesis, ester hydrogenation, and high-efficiency spraying The technology has enabled the integration of key process technologies to amplify technology and form a complete set of process technology for demonstration of 200,000 tons/year of coal to ethylene glycol industry; the world’s first 200,000-ton coal-to-ethylene glycol industrial demonstration unit has been built. And to achieve the operation, ethylene glycol products meet the standard of GB4649-2008.
It is understood that coal-to-ethylene glycol is a very important coal chemical project. Fujian Institute of Materials Research and Development started to develop this technology in the 1980s. After nearly 30 years of research and efforts, it built the world’s first 200,000 tons of coal. Ethylene glycol industrial demonstration device.
