Recently, Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology announced the results of various archaeological work last year. As one of the topical archaeological sites, the Ganquangong site in Suihua County in Xianyang last year found 12 contemporaneous sites. The archaeological survey covers an area of 10 square kilometers.
National Sacrifice Center in the Western Han Dynasty
Ganquangong Site is located in Liangwudi Village in the town of Tiwang, in the north of Chunhua County. It is the starting point of Qinzhidao and the National Sacrifice Center in the Western Han Dynasty. In 2006, it was announced as the fourth batch of state-level cultural relics protection units. The existing relics include external walls, thresholds, large-scale buildings, soil and bed bases, and Ximen Gate sites. The sites are rich in connotation and have better preservation conditions.
Ganquan Palace is also known as Yunyang Palace. It was once the Qin Dynasty's vassal palace. Later, it was built by Han Wudi on the basis of this expansion. The description of Ganquangong according to Tang's Brassland Notes: “In the 19th century of Gong Zhou, compared with the Jianzhang Palace, the Bai Palace had a shameless house.†During the Qin Shi Huang, the former temple of Ganquangong was built to be located at Shushan Mountain. In the Han dynasty, Han Wudi often began to shelter in Ganquan Palace in May and returned to Beijing in August. Ganquangong is the second most important venue for Han Wudi after Chang’an Weiyang Palace. It is not only the summer resort of the ruling class, but many major political activities are arranged here.
Found 12 contemporary sites
From September to December last year, archaeological staff conducted an indoor and outdoor archaeological investigation of the site of the Ganquangong site. Up to now, the archaeological survey covers an area of 10 square kilometers, and 12 contemporaneous sites have been discovered, including two remnants of pottery kiln and rammed earth walls. There are 42 relics, tombs and seals or architectural platforms.
Archaeological findings found that the outer wall of the site of the Ganquangong Palace was built from rammed earth, with a height of 5 meters and a circumference of 5,668 meters. In the outer wall and on the nearby ground surface, there are 8 rammed earth and stone bases, stone pillar bases, and stone drums in the Song Dynasty. Stone drainage pipes are also found in the southwest of the Western Wall. Over the years, archaeologists collected a number of stone pillar foundations, paving tiles, hollow bricks, tile tiles, tile tiles, tile tiles, and circular, pentagonal ceramic drainage pipes, and five kinds of copper coins and other relics inside and outside the site of the Ganquan Palace. According to the latest archaeological survey, the total site area exceeds 10 million square meters.
The archeological work focused on the ruins of the interior of the Ganquan Palace, and through field archaeological work, the staff fully grasped the functions of the space layout, the scope structure, the road direction, the drainage pipe network, and eight rammed soil foundations within the outer wall. Based on the relics and relics found outside the city, the scope of distribution of the site area, functional distinctions, flood protection facilities in front of the piedmont buildings, and the starting point of Qinhuangdao were explored.
The survey not only preliminarily defined the farthest destination of the four directions of the site of the Ganquangong Palace, but also grasped the distribution characteristics of the ruins outside the wall, and also explored the relationship between Qinqin Road and Ganquangong, the flood prevention facilities of the Piedmont palace building, and the archeology of the next year. The development of work provides useful clues.
